The lives and achievements of great people from various fields have been a very strong source of motivation the world over. Since the beginning of this blog, I’ve been writing about various great people whose lives and achievements invariably leave an indelible mark on the mindset of the success-seekers in their pursuit for success.

At 5, starts learning classical music from father.


At 12, on the 8th day of her father’s death,


acts and sings in a Marathi film to support the family.


First film song at 13, which was never used.


Records first Bollywood song at 18.


Wins first Filmfare at 29.


11 years later, decides to stay away. To give others a chance!


Wins the “Padma Bhushan” in 1969.



In 1974, becomes first Indian to perform at London’s


Royal Albert Hall,


who declare her voice the world’s “most perfect”.


In the same year, enters Guinness Book of World Records.


Wins the Dada Saheb Phalke Award in 1989.


The “Padma Vibhushan” in 1999.


And in 2001, the nation’s highest civilian honor,


The Bharat Ratna.



Latabai Mangeshkar.


A voice that transcends genres. And generations.


As she croons, a nation swoons.
